Magnetic Floating Sofa

“The Cloud” is a sofa concept based on magnetic forces designed by D.K. Wei.

Designed for ultra comfort and relaxation, “The Cloud” magnetically levitating sofa is the most amazing sofa concept I’ve ever come across.

The magnetic force generated by the base offers support for the very soft upper part of the sofa. It would be a great thing to work or relax on the floating cloud to release the stress.

Unlike the magnetic floating bed, it’s not tethered with any steel cables. The soft cloud-like chaise lounge received an honorable mention at the RELAX furniture design contest.

According to the designer, “Our work recevied the honorable mention for RELAX furniture design contest, held by YANKO DESIGN, sponsored by Rhino & Bunkspeed.”

Unfortunately the physics behind this floating sofa have yet to be worked out as natural magnets aren’t anywhere strong enough to support a person while allowing the sofa to remain stable and the power required to use electromagnets would be a tad on the expensive side.
