America Misunderstood

// April 6th, 2009 // No Comments » // General

Why people abroad have this frightening image of us?
We export equivocated “foreign” culture.

You may be surprised to find out how often and why “AMERICA” is so misunderstood by so many people around the world.Misunderstandings result from the peculiar way we see the world and from the peculiar way the world sees us. “How come?” you may say, “American films, books, and television programs are well known all over the world.” Exactly, the fact that we downpour our culture on so many peoples creates most of those misunderstandings!

The causes for misinterpretation vary. However, we provide almost all of them. The world sees us through fun-house mirrors provided by us. Through similar mirrors we see the world and even ourselves in a peculiar way, too. The most noticeable of these fun-house mirrors is our language.

After listening to claims and complaints from people all over the world, america-funnyI found out that English, our English, causes most of these misunderstandings. “But English is almost universally spoken!” you may say. Basic English yes! English, no. In fact, most English speakers do not believe that those who are not native to the language will ever get to learn it well. Furthermore, being a language, which is not mutually intelligible with any other, English instills in us a sense of alienation characteristic to such languages.

England created the English language, but the USA was the nation that turned it into the richest language on earth and a formidable communication tool. It was our nation, open to changes, immigration, new mores and new ideas that made English universal. We have ethnic groups from every corner of the world and each of them has contributed to make English what it is today.Nevertheless, absorption has been too fast sometimes, leaving no room for analysis. Once the majority accepts a simple word or phrase, that word — or phrase — freezes, allowing no correction or adjustment in spelling, meaning or pronunciation. Rectification rarely happens in English. This inability to rectify and correct words is the dark side of the English language. The expression “coining” clearly describes what usage does to a new word or phrase: it makes it metal solid. Incorrigible usage gave us a multitude of traditional errors nailed them so deeply into our minds that no one can hammer them out of our heads.

Famous DNA Review – Genghis Khan

// March 31st, 2009 // No Comments » // General

In 2003, researchers from around the world released a paper that suggested that 8% of all Mongolian males have a common Y chromosome because they are the descendants of Genghis Khan (See “The Genetic Legacy of the Mongols,” 2003, Zerjal, et. al.,American Journal of Human Genetics, 72: 717-721). The researchers examined the Y chromosome variability of over 2000 people from different regions in Asia and discovered a grouping of closely related lines. The cluster is believed to have originated about 1,000 years ago in Mongolia and its distribution coincides with the boundaries of the Mongol Empire.

Genghis Khan’s empire (he ruled from 1206–1227) stretched across Asia from the Pacific Ocean to the Caspian Sea and was reportedly extremely prolific. Khan’s son Tushi had as many as 40 sons. His grandson Kublai Khan is reported to have had as many as 22 sons,and perhaps many more. Together this family may have as many as 16 million descendants alive in Asia today. It is extremely important to note that until DNA can be extracted from Khan’s bones (which have never been found), there is no definitive proof that this Y chromosome cluster is actually descended from Genghis Khan.

When Family Tree DNA compared the markers in the paper to their database, they determined that the Y chromosome cluster belongs to Haplogroup C3 (M217+). Forty-seven samples in their database at that time exactly matched the markers identified in the paper. The company has summarized the marker results from the paper and have made that information freely available.

A newly released study from Russian scientists examined the Y chromosomes of 1,437 men from 18 Asian ethnic groups (AltaiKazakhs, Altai-Khizhis, Teleuts, Khakasses, Shor, Tuvinians, Todjins, Tofalars, Soyotes, Buryats, Khamnigans, Evenks, Mongolians, Kalmyks, Tajiks, Kurds, Persians and Russians). The researchers discovered that approximately 35% of Mongolians possess the “Khan” Y chromosome. Surprisingly, the results of the study suggest that although the Mongol Empire held eastern Russia for 250 years, there are few “Khan” Y chromosome carriers in that region.

Sex Manual Survival Guide (Part I)

// March 29th, 2009 // No Comments » // General

This article is for everyone out there who openly admits that they still don’t have much of a clue about life, love, or to be more specific, sex.

The Opposite Sex– What are they?
Before going any further in this quest for sexual knowledge, we really need to work out what on earth the opposite sex is all about.

sex-cartoonMany men willingly admit that they haven’t a clue how the female mind works– that’s their excuse for not making the effort to understand.

Many women like to encourage this foolishness by pretending they are mysterious and enigmatic–and that’s their excuse for the fact that they don’t know what’s going on either. So let’s explode a few myths and take a look at the main identifying features of each sex.

Man
Brain - Confused, looking for his mother.
A Sense of Humor - Essential but often juvenile.
Clothes - Don’t try and judge a man by his clothes. He’s probably being dressed by another woman.
Attitude - Lots of men have attitude. You’re meant to be intrigued.
Wallet - An essential accessory, and one that many women mistakenly overlook.
Down Below - Don’t worry, size doesn’t matter. No honesty, it doesn’t.
Feet - The size of man’s feet is all-important.

Woman
Brain - Many men like to think that women are mentally inferior.
A Sense of Humor - When she says you’re the best she’s ever had - that’s sarcasm.
Clothes - Power-dressing usually indicates psychotic tendencies. To be avoided.

Dow Below - To wax or not to wax?
